The ANNUAL MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR THE CZECHOSLOVAK VICTIMS OF NAZISM

  • Live on Zoom (2:00 pm EST) (map)

The service will be led as in the many past years, since 1980, by Rabbi Norman Patz. We are honored that Milan Vrbovsky, Consul General of the Slovak Republic in New York and Arnošt Kareš, Consul General of the Czech Republic in New York, will participate in the Service.

In the Memorial Program, Cantor Natasha Hirschhorn will present rarely heard songs by Karel Reiner and Norbert Frýd from the children’s song cycle “Abeceda Květovaného koně (Alphabet of a Flowered Horse)” and from the play “Esther”.  Zuzana Justman, who learned the songs in a playgroup (útulek) organized by the Prague Jewish community before being deported to Terezín, will introduce the songs and their composers.

Natasha Hirschhorn is a professor at the Cantorial School of the Jewish Theological Seminary, and also the Cantor and the Music Director of Congregation Ansche Chesed in Manhattan. Zuzana Justman is a writer and an award-winning filmmaker.

Even though we are not ready yet to meet in person, we will be able to see each other and chat. RSVP through Eventbrite to receive a Zoom link.
